The global slowdown that everyone is being warned of didnt seem very visable at Electronica a couple of weeks ago. The event was buzzing and the NEW team had a great week there, good meetings and positive feedback about 2009.

I also had some really encouraging news from one of our exhibitors yesterday in the EMS sector - 'after a few months of cautious customer orders we have just received two month's worth of forward orders in a week'

Perhaps it might not be so bad for B2B professional industries like ours!

The irony is, while everyone is talking about 'financial crisis' and 'credit crunch' etc. the high street this week end was overcrowded and people could hardly carry all their shopping bags and it's not even christmas yet. I browsed the shelves of PC World and Dixons here in the UK and it certainly didn't look like people were holding back. Yes there are loads of dicount offer promotions around, but they seem to just entice people into stores - once in it becomes obvious that these offers are only available for certain limited product lines. Don't we go through this every christmas and then everyone reports increased sales afterall? Any similar experiences in other countries?

I am with you Claire - seems to be some good news around in pockets, and if you look at reports from Asia on manufacturing of electronics goods, some numbers like LCD TVs are up. And the reports from the US of last Friday's all important retail sales look pretty good too. We'll have to see what the remaining run up to Christmas is like for electronics, but let's try and focus on the good news that is out there!!! P
